Key Responsibilities:

• Instruction & Curriculum Delivery:
  • Teach general music classes to middle school students, incorporating music theory, history, vocal training, and instrumental instruction.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with school and state music education standards.
  • Introduce students to a variety of musical genres and cultures.
• Performance & Events:
  • Organize and direct school music performances such as concerts, recitals, and assemblies.
  • Prepare students for performances through rehearsals and vocal/instrumental coaching.
• Student Development:
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and self-expression.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support students of varying skill levels and adapt instruction accordingly.
• Classroom & Resource Management:
  • Maintain musical instruments and classroom equipment.
  • Ensure proper use and care of instruments and materials.
• Collaboration & School Community:
  • Work with fellow teachers and staff to integrate music into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and involvement in performances.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain one).
• Proficiency in one or more musical instruments and vocal instruction.
• Previous teaching experience, particularly at the middle school level, is a plus.
• Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
• Passionate about fostering a love of music in young learners.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience directing a school choir, band, or orchestra.
• Familiarity with music technology tools and notation software.
• Ability to teach a range of music styles and cultural traditions.
